New Wooden Front Door in Centre of Cambridge

Gunilla lives in a classic terraced house in central Cambridge – a fantastic location within few minutes of the city centre and the River Cam.

The homes here have plenty of historical character features, but also come with historical draught-proofing and security.

The old door had certainly seen better days – it was single-glazed, stuck in wet weather and was held in place by just two small steel hinges. The frame had no bottom stile, so the door closed directly onto the original stone step. Security was basic too, with just a Yale rim-lock and a Chubb deadlock.

Gunilla wanted to keep the new door looking traditional, so we carefully matched the original style, using Hague Blue paint and aged brass furniture from our superior range to get the authentic look.

The new door looks great, but the biggest improvements are in the details. The new door hangs on four heavy-duty brass easy-glide hinges and features 5-point locking from a single key. Since it has double-glazed panels and fits so snugly it’s both draught-proof and sound-proof too. We added a new bottom stile to the door frame so that the new door seals well and fits snugly regardless of the weather.
