Traditional Engineered Timber Front Door, Cirencester

Traditional Engineered Timber Front Door, Cirencester. Woodcraft Windows

Working across the Cotswolds, we approach every project with respect for traditional workmanship and the original build—keeping things simple, solid, and done properly.

This project involved replacing an existing site-made door and frame, originally made and installed by the client, a retired joiner/carpenter. Bill now volunteers with the Canal Trust, continuing to apply his skills maintaining lock gates and other historic timber work.

The original fully panelled timber door had weathered over time, with noticeable air leakage and no modern locking system. The requirement was to improve thermal performance and security while keeping the design in keeping with the cottage. The existing door and frame were removed with no structural alterations to the opening.

Bill had run his own successful family building and joinery business for many years in Wiltshire.

There’s a level of trust when another tradesman asks you to take over from their own work. That’s always respected.

Our salesperson, Mark, visited the site to go through the details with Bill. They discussed what to keep, what to improve, and what could be brought up to modern standards without losing character. Following this, a quote was produced, and once agreed, a full technical survey was carried out to take final measurements and confirm detailing before manufacture.

Bill is thrilled with the new engineered timber front door, and impressed that so much of the original character has been maintained whilst improving airtightness, upgrading security, and increasing natural light.

“As a retired Carpenter/Joiner I was expecting very high standards. I was not disappointed and would recommend Woodcraft Windows to anyone wanting a quality and hassle free experience.”
