Timber Casement Windows and Wooden Stable Front Door, Watlington

“We now enjoy a warmer, more comfortable home thanks to the new windows. We’d always wanted a stable door too, so were very happy with the work done by Woodcraft Windows.”
– Martin, Watlington
Martin first contacted Woodcraft Windows in August 2025 to discuss replacing the windows in his home. The existing timber windows had served the property well for many years, but they had reached the point where replacement was the most sensible option. The windows had become increasingly draughty and inefficient, allowing significant heat loss during the colder months and making it more difficult to keep the home comfortable.
Having been recommended to us by a friend who had previously used our services, Martin approached the project with confidence, knowing he was in safe hands. During our initial site meeting, we carefully assessed the property and discussed his priorities. While the windows themselves needed replacing, Martin was very happy with their appearance and wanted to retain the existing character of the house. His goal was simple: keep the same traditional look, but eliminate the draughts, rotten timber and poor thermal performance.
Our solution was to faithfully replicate the original window design while incorporating modern materials and technology. The new windows were manufactured from high-quality engineered timber, which provides far greater stability than traditional solid timber and helps prevent movement, warping and swelling over time. They were then finished with a premium microporous water-based paint system, offering superior protection against the elements and significantly extending the lifespan of the windows.
As improving energy efficiency was one of Martin’s main objectives, we also discussed the property’s front door. Although replacing the door had not originally been part of the project, we explained that a considerable amount of heat would still be lost through the existing draughty and poorly fitting door. After considering the benefits, Martin and his family decided to include a replacement door as part of the renovation.
This presented an opportunity to fulfil a long-held ambition. The family had always loved the idea of a traditional stable door and wanted to introduce more glazing to bring additional natural light into the front room. The new design achieved both objectives, enhancing the character of the property while improving comfort and functionality.
The original windows featured a pale blue finish that had faded over the years. Rather than simply recreating the old colour, Martin decided to be a little more adventurous and selected a beautiful pastel blue shade. The result creates a striking contrast against the white rendered walls and adds a fresh, welcoming appearance to the home.
The finished transformation was stunning. From the outside, the property retains its familiar character, but now benefits from beautifully crafted timber windows and a charming new stable door. Inside, the family enjoys a warmer, more comfortable home with significantly improved energy efficiency and reduced draughts.
This project perfectly demonstrates how it is possible to preserve the traditional appearance of a property while enjoying all the benefits of modern craftsmanship, materials and performance.
Another happy customer and another successful recommendation. We are delighted to have helped Martin and his family transform their home and thank them for placing their trust in Woodcraft Windows.
