Timber Casement Windows in Conservation Area, Devizes. Woodcraft Windows

“We decided to go with Woodcraft Windows as we are in a Conservation area, and the new double glazed windows need to match the original single glazed ones. As we are on a main road the noise from the road was quite intense and the windows were starting to rot, but now we can hardly hear the road noise and the windows look exceptional and in character with the house. The whole process was smooth and professional and would definitely recommend getting in touch with Woodcraft Windows if you are after quality wooden windows.”

– Luke, Devizes

This project involved replacing several timber flush‑casement windows at a property located on a main road within a Conservation Area near Devizes, Wiltshire. Our client, Luke, required new double‑glazed windows that would match the original single‑glazed units in appearance while significantly improving noise reduction and thermal performance.

The property is situated on a busy main road, meaning noise reduction was a key priority. The original windows were rotting and offered little insulation, so precise manufacturing and installation were essential to achieve both acoustic improvement and heritage‑appropriate aesthetics.

As the home is in a Conservation Area, the new windows needed to closely match the original single‑glazed appearance while meeting modern performance standards. Careful detailing, such as glazing bars, hardware style, and paint finish, was required to ensure compliance and visual continuity.

We manufactured and installed bespoke flush‑casement windows across the sitting room and front bedroom. The sitting room included three windows – two opening casements and one fixed unit – each crafted from European engineered redwood with hardwood sills and finished in RAL 9010 white.

The front bedroom window was a larger dual‑colour unit featuring a brush‑painted Jet Black external cill (RAL 9005) to complement the property’s exterior detailing. All windows were supplied with 24mm Low‑E double‑glazed units filled with argon gas, decorative timber glazing bars, trickle vents, and traditional curved espagnolette hardware in black.

Installation included full making‑good inside and outside, plus disposal of old windows.

Despite the heritage requirements, the new double‑glazed units dramatically improved comfort and reduced road noise, making Luke very happy with the new windows, and showing how modern performance can be achieved without compromising character.
