Replacement Box Sash Windows, Wolvercote

Judy wanted to replace her Edwardian sash windows with identically-styled double glazed units as the originals no longer opened or closed reliably in summer and were draughty in winter. They didn’t block out traffic noise and generally looked scruffy. She was anxious to improve their performance for economic and environmental reasons as well as comfort.

She kindly went into detail about her experience working with us:

Why Woodcraft Windows?
“I requested quotes from three companies, but Woodcraft was the only one who arranged a personal visit from the start, the others opting for online correspondence. Considering that new windows are a major investment, I thought this was important, even though they were not the cheapest option.”

The process:
“This was both reassuring and impressive. A mock up window was brought to my house on the first visit so I could inspect its quality, questions were encouraged, at no time did I feel rushed, and the paperwork was very comprehensive. Although I had to wait sixteen weeks for my windows, I was kept informed of progress by the three-stage payment system, which also facilitated budgeting. The fitters were prompt and polite and worked with admirable efficiency. They obviously knew their job! Once the windows were fitted it was impossible to see the extensive nature of the work as hardly any touching up was needed.”

The result:
“I had all my windows replaced over three years as and when I could afford it: initially the bathroom and back bedroom, then the dining room and finally both the front bedroom and lounge. The latter were double sash windows, so a bigger job, but I was confident that they would be well made and fitted because of the earlier results. The outcome makes such a difference! I love actually opening and closing my new windows to let in fresh air, it’s so much quieter and they look so very much better. I feel the fabric of my old house is much more secure, although superficially it looks much the same, such is the skill of the makers in reproducing the appearance of the originals so exactly.”

“My message to someone considering working with Woodcraft Windows: I’m not easily impressed and have had several issues over the years with improvements to my previous Victorian and now Edwardian houses. This is one of the only companies I would unreservedly endorse. True they are a bit more expensive than some but replacing 120-year-old windows is not something to economise on. If necessary, I think it’s worth spreading the investment over several years to get the best quality available and Woodcraft have been fine with this. Next on my agenda is saving for a new front door, already discussed and planned for!” – Judy, Wolvercote
