Timber and Glass Atrium Extension, Bassingbourn

Jacqueline was looking to replace the timber glazed panel that ran down the gable end side wall that encompassed the lounge on the ground floor and her office on the first floor.
The existing glazed timber and glass screen was underperforming had started to show its age and a new timber glazed wall was needed to keep the rooms more secure and weather tight. Whilst replacing an old fashioned louvred window in the study area with a custom designed casement window, we drew up a similar design to the existing scheme to replicate the structure.
One of the most important considerations was making sure the angle of the top of the wooden frame and glass followed the rake of the roof line. This required careful measurement and precise joinery to ensure the new frame sat seamlessly against the building. The updated construction also needed to be slightly slimmer than the original woodwork. This subtle adjustment was necessary to achieve better weatherproofing, reduce potential moisture traps, and improve the overall fit and finish. Despite being narrower, the new frame retained its strength and visual presence.
The completed installation offers Jacqueline a renewed sense of security, improved thermal performance, and a beautifully refreshed appearance that respects the original character of her home while bringing it up to modern standards.
“The replication is superb, but more importantly it fits better with the structure and keeps out the cold. I’m very pleased with the work done, a quality company you can trust.”
