Timber Double Doors Hopperton North Yorkshire

Robert was looking to replace the rotten double doors leading to the back garden at his home in Hopperton, North Yorkshire. The old doors were draughty and didn’t look great, but since Robert’s house is on the outskirts of town near the railway, security was his primary concern. 

During the free design consultation, we suggested that it would be great to use the existing archway and manufacture arched doors to suit, replacing the old infilled panel in the old frame entirely. Having finalised the design, we proceeded with the manufacture at our workshop.

The old doors only had two flimsy hinges per side, a central Chubb lock and four screw-on brass bolts – hardly secure at all! The frame had a simple steel bar at the bottom against which the doors closed, which made it hard to keep out the draughts. Our new design features four heavy-duty hinges per side, reinforced steel sections in the frames with multi-point locking from a single handle, and the new aluminium bottom threshold includes soft rubber seals for draught-proofing. The new doors also feature multiple panes of tough double glazing. With the tasteful blue paint job, this is a massive upgrade in terms of security, style and heat retention.

The installation process was trickier than expected, as the depth of the brickwork caused the new arched doors to bind, so we move the door back a little to allow enough clearance for the arched opening. You can see how precise we got the clearance in the photo gallery below.

The end result exceeded Robert’s expectations on every level and he’s well chuffed with the outcome.
