Wooden French Doors and Sash Window, Caversham, Reading

“We had some of our wooden windows replaced by Woodcraft Windows a few years ago and had one more Box Sash window to do in a bedroom and a pair of French Doors. Because we knew the quality and how Woodcraft match the original design of our existing windows, we had no issue using them again. The workmanship in the manufacturing of these windows and doors is second to none, and not just that – the way their installation team fit them is top craftsmanship. Proper Wooden Windows & Doors at its best.”
– Claire, Caversham, Reading
This project involved replacing a traditional box sash window and installing a new pair of French doors for our client, Claire, at her property in Caversham, Reading. Claire had previously used Woodcraft Windows for other timber window replacements and returned due to the high quality.
The project required precise manufacturing to match existing timber windows previously installed at the property.
The box sash window was manufactured in European engineered redwood with a hardwood sill, featuring 60mm horns on the top sash, polished brass hardware, Q‑lon gaskets for improved sealing, decorative glazing bars, and an arched head infill. It was finished in single‑colour RAL 9010 white and supplied with 24mm Low‑E double‑glazed units filled with argon gas.
The French doors were outward‑opening timber units, also in European engineered redwood, with a brush‑painted RAL 9010 finish. They included toughened double glazing, polished brass hardware, swept lever handles, suited cylinders, decorative glazing bars, and an arched head infill.
The doors required careful fitting to ensure smooth operation, security, and weather performance, especially given their size and the inclusion of toughened glazing.
Like all our projects, this installation included full making‑good inside and outside, plus disposal of old items.
Claire had returned to us specifically because of our craftsmanship and ability to replicate original designs. This repeat customer relationship highlights the long‑term trust built through previous installations.
The combination of a traditional box sash window and a pair of French doors has allowed the property to retain its heritage character while benefiting from modern thermal efficiency.
