Bespoke Wooden Front Door, Rear Doors and Windows, Yate, Bristol
Set beside a peaceful river, this beautiful converted watermill has been carefully divided into three homes. In 2025, one of the homeowners, Andy, approached Woodcraft Windows to begin upgrading the original windows and doors in his property.
Andy first contacted us in February 2025, looking to replace his old front door, which was a non-standard size and required a bespoke solution. After seeing the quality of our work on neighbouring properties within the same watermill conversion, he felt confident choosing Woodcraft Windows for the project.
“I am looking to replace my front door with a new timber door. I understand it is a non-standard size, so it would need to be custom made. If you are able to help, I would be grateful if you could provide a quote for supply, fitting, locks, etc. As an aside, one of your representatives left a brochure when visiting our neighbours (The Water Wheel House) to quote for a job for them.”

The original mill conversion still had single-glazed windows, so upgrading them would significantly improve comfort and energy efficiency. Another feature that stood out to Andy was our invisible trickle vent system, which maintains ventilation without affecting the external appearance of the windows.
Stage One – The Entrance Door
For the new front entrance, Andy selected a European engineered redwood half-panelled timber door with frosted glass.
The finish was carefully chosen to complement the historic character of the building:
- Exterior: Farrow & Ball “Belvedere Blue”
- Interior: Farrow & Ball “Snow White”
The door was fitted with a high-security multipoint lever locking system and completed with a Victorian-style letterplate in satin chrome, combining traditional style with modern functionality.
Stage Two – Full Window & Door Upgrade
After seeing the results of the first installation, Andy returned in August 2025 to complete the transformation of the property. This second stage included replacing the remaining two doors and ten windows, bringing the total installation to 13 bespoke units.
The windows chosen were flush casement timber windows with decorative glazing bars, maintaining the traditional appearance expected in a historic mill conversion.
The windows were finished inside and out in Farrow & Ball “Snow White”, paired with curved espagnolette handles in satin chrome, creating a clean and timeless aesthetic.
Beyond the visual transformation, Andy was particularly impressed with the engineering behind the new windows and doors:
- High-security locking systems
- European engineered redwood construction to minimise movement, warping, and swelling
- Modern high-performance double-glazed units
- Traditional craftsmanship combined with contemporary performance standards
The result is a home that retains the historic charm of the original watermill, while benefiting from modern insulation, security, and long-term durability.
“We live in a converted mill and both our neighbours used Woodcraft Windows to change all their windows and doors, the work was stunning and they were highly recommended. Like my neighbours we are over the moon with the outcome, the project went so smoothly and was carried out professionally from start to finish. The quality of the windows and doors are perfect and in keeping with the old mill’s charm. Thank you again Woodcraft Windows”
