“We couldn’t be happier with the quality of the work. The team were lovely.”

Hazel – Jericho, Oxford

Hazel and her young family recently moved into this lovely Victorian terraced house in the popular Jericho area of Oxford.

These houses are very sought-after because of their lovely period features and proximity to the city centre, the river and the vibrant, village-like community of Jericho. But, like most heritage homes, Hazel’s home needed a little updating to provide the comforts of modern living.

The first step was to replace the old single glazed sash windows. Sash windows are an elegant solution, and were cutting-edge technology 150 years ago. But engineering has come a long way since then, and today, we are able to improve greatly on the originals, adding modern security, thermal efficiency and sound-proofing, whilst retaining the look an feel of the original sash windows.

Jericho is a conservation area, so there are restrictions on the changes you can make to key features, and the window profiles and timber arches had to be retained to meet regulations and maintain the character of the area.

We’ve worked on homes in Jericho dozens of times, so none of that was a problem for us. Once we’d taken careful measurements and built the new windows in our workshop, our installation team had Hazel’s home looking great and feeling snug, warm and draught-free in just three days.
