Timber Front Door with Sidelights and Stable Door with Flag Window, Bicester

Set in a quiet village near Bicester, this cottage sits within a classic Cotswolds setting, with honey-coloured stone buildings, and open countryside that attracts visitors looking for a genuine rural escape.
Peter approached us to replace an existing barn-style door and sidelights that formed part of the original structure. The challenge was to upgrade security with a reliable locking system, while still allowing natural light into the hallway—despite an internal wall separating it from the cloakroom. The solution needed to balance light, privacy, and security without compromising the building’s character.
With a strong background in the building trade, Peter was looking for a straightforward, efficient approach and a finish he could rely on. As the property operates as a holiday let, everything also needed to be robust, secure, and easy for guests to use.
The project was carried out in three stages. Initially, we replaced the front entrance door. Following inspection of the workmanship and overall finish, Peter returned to us to proceed with a matching kitchen stable door, and finally a flush casement window—ensuring consistency across all elements.
We supplied and installed a full set of engineered timber joinery, with raised and fielded panels carried through where required to achieve a well-matched, cohesive look.
Security and usability were prioritised throughout. Multipoint lever locking systems were fitted to all doors, giving solid protection while remaining simple and intuitive in use. Glazing was carefully considered to maintain natural light into the hallway without affecting the function of the adjoining cloakroom. All units were double glazed with toughened glass for durability and performance.
A consistent dual-finish was applied, with Farrow & Ball No.17 Light Gray externally to suit the property, and white internally for a clean, neutral look. Black heritage-style hardware completed the installation, providing a durable and cohesive finish.
The result is a clean, well-executed installation that resolves the original constraints without compromise—secure, practical, and built to last, with a level of finish that reflects proper craftsmanship.
“Dealing with Woodcraft Windows has been a pleasure, the team was so professional from start to finish and we would highly recommend them.”
